The Kurogane Type 95 small passenger car, first mass produced in 1936, is Japan's first four wheel drive vehicle. Its exceptional off road performance made it invaluable for reconnaissance and communications duties. Originally built as a three seater, later four seater versions were also produced. Separately, a cargo variant was made by replacing the area behind the driver's seat with a cargo bed, creating the Type 95 small cargo vehicle.
