Description
The Seta class gunboats were built by the Imperial Japanese Navy for river patrol and protection of interests on the Chinese mainland. Four vessels entered service in the 1920s — Seta, Hira, Hozu, and Katata — and operated mainly on the Yangtze River. With a shallow draft and compact hull, these boats were optimized for river navigation and support missions. By the end of World War II the ships had become aged; some continued operations in China and were later lost or captured by local forces.
