The Wam 1/3500 series was a covered freight car introduced during the Taisho era. It served as the standard covered freight car for the Ministry of Railways and was also adopted by many private railways across the country. Over time, cars were modified with steel doors and added bracing and continued in service until most were retired following the freight speed increases in the 4310 timetable revision.
